The effect of the plane of energy nutrition of the cow on the secretion in milk of the constituents of the solids-not-fat fraction and on the concentrations of certain blood-plasma constituents.

چکیده
An increase in the plane of energy nutrition of the cow is known to increase both the yield and the solids-not-fat (s.N.F.) content of milk: a decrease in fat content also occurs but there is little effect on the yield of fat (for review of literature, see Burt, 1957 a). Though small depressions in milk lactose content occur with underfeeding (Rowland, 1946), any change in S.N.F. content is largely due to a change in the protein content of the milk, and thus an increase in the net energy supply to the cow gives rise to a specific increase in the synthesis of protein by the mammary gland. The metabolic pathways by which this effect and the increase in milk yield are achieved are, however, as yet unknown. The experiments described here were designed to investigate the effect of the plane of energy nutrition of the cow on the amounts of the individual proteins in milk and on the concentrations of certain blood-plasma constituents that are possibly of importance in the synthesis of proteins within the mammary gland. Two experiments have been made. In the first, the variations in plane of energy nutrition imposed were within the range of feeding levels normally experienced in practice, whereas in the second extreme differences in plane of energy nutrition were compared in an attempt to exaggerate any changes in blood composition associated with change of level of feeding.

Effects of water desalination on milk production and several blood constituents of Holstein cows in a hot arid climate
Fourteen primiparous Holstein cows (180.0 ± 4.3 days in milk) with a mean (±SD) daily milk yield of 35.0 ± 1.3 kg and a body condition score of 3.2 ± 0.2 were allotted into two groups (n = 7), and were fed a ration consisting of (dry matter basis) 35% corn silage, 25% alfalfa hay and 40% concentrates. Salt was provided free choice. The experiment was performed during the period of heat stress, ...
متن کاملInfluence of Dietary Energy and Protein Intake on Yield and Composition of Milk in Crossbred Dairy Cows
The study was carried out on 120 crossbred Holstein × Shahiwal dairy cows for a period of 150 days to quantify the influence of dietary energy and protein intake on yield and composition of milk. Total 12 dairy farms having similar housing systems and holding at least 20 dairy cows in between mid to late lactation were selected for study purposes. The farms were located in the peri-urban and ur...
متن کاملEffects of dietary polyunsaturated fatty acids on ovarian function and prostaglandin secretion in lactating dairy cows
As lactating cows in severe negative energy balance have poor reproductive performance, the effect of dietary fat supplementation (fish oil, soybean oil) on PGFM secretion, ovarian function and blood metabolites is investigated. In this experiment, the effects of dietary polyunsaturated fatty acids on plasma metabolites, ovarian function and prostaglandin secretion of 20 primiparous Holstein co...
متن کاملThe effects of corn silage particles size and fat supplement on feed intake, digestibility, ruminal function, chewing activity, and performance in mid-lactating Holstein dairy cows
An experiment was carried out to determine the effect of corn silage particle size and fat supplements on performance, solid passage rate through the digestive tract, and chewing behavior in dairy cows. The forages were coarse or fine corn silage with geometric means of 8.8±2.7 and 5.6±2.8 mm, and alfalfa with geometrics means of 7.0±3.3 mm, and fat supplements were neutral fat (palm) and soy-o...

Introduction: Ghrelin is a peptide hormone secreted from the stomach with both endocrine and paracrine effects. Ghrelin and its mRNA as well as growth hormone (GH) secretagogue receptor mRNAs are expressed in the pancreas and islet cells and regulate insulin release. Also the immounoreactivity of ghrelin is proved to be high in the hypothalamus and parts of the brain responsible for the re...
